• Search seeds: The content titles, creators, or descriptions you enter to get recommendations
• Personalization context: Optional tastes, exclusions, and information about you that you choose to include
• Taste feedback: Items you keep, mark as seen, or mark as not for you, with any reason you give. These build Your bearings, a short summary of your taste
• Custom covers: Images you upload as a collection cover
• Account info: Your email address, plus your display name and picture if you sign in with Google. If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive only Apple's private relay address

Automatically Collected Information

• Device ID: A random identifier stored on your device, used for rate limiting
• IP address: Used for rate limiting and abuse prevention; stored only as a salted hash
• Usage data: Search history, saved collections, and feature interactions

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

• Generate personalized content recommendations
• Enforce daily search limits
• Enable collections, sharing, and history features
• Build and update Your bearings from your taste feedback
• Improve the Service through analytics
• Prevent abuse and ensure security

3. Data Storage

On Your Device

• Authentication session
• Device ID
• App preferences (theme and settings)

Cloud Storage (Supabase)

• User accounts and authentication data
• Saved collections and their share links
• Search history
• Taste feedback and Your bearings
• Searches in progress, so you can resume them after closing the app
• Uploaded and generated cover images

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Google Sign-In: For signing in with Google (subject to Google's Privacy Policy)
• Sign in with Apple: For signing in with Apple on iOS (subject to Apple's Privacy Policy)
• Supabase: Database, file storage, and authentication infrastructure, including email sign-in codes
• Perplexity AI: For generating recommendations and Your bearings (your search seeds, personalization context, and taste feedback are sent to their API)
• Brave Search: For checking that recommended titles really exist
• Google Gemini: For generating illustrated covers (only a short scene description, written from the title, is sent)
• OpenAI: For safety checks on searches, recommendations, and uploaded covers
• Sentry: Error monitoring (technical error reports)
• Railway: Backend hosting
• Netlify: Frontend hosting

5. Data Retention

• Collections and share links: Kept until you delete them or your account
• Search history and taste feedback: Kept until you clear them or delete your account
• Searches in progress: Deleted after 1 day
• Analytics events: Retained for up to 90 days
• Account data: Kept until account deletion

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: View your stored data
• Delete: Delete single collections or signals, clear all collections and history, or delete your account and all its data at any time from You → Delete account
• Export: Request a copy of your data

7. Cookies and Tracking

We use minimal cookies and local storage for essential functionality only:

• Authentication session management
• Device identification for rate limiting
• App preferences (theme and settings)

We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising networks.

8. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures including:

• HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
• Secure authentication via Google Sign-In, Sign in with Apple, or one-time email codes
• Database-level security policies (Row Level Security)
• Rate limiting to prevent abuse

9. Children's Privacy

Akin is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us.

10. International Users

Your data may be processed in countries outside your residence. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer. We comply with applicable data protection laws including GDPR for EU users.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
